Case Study.
ZenSync.
A cloud SaaS that lets teams write, sketch and talk in the same room, without being in the same room.
ZenSync is a collaboration platform built to redefine teamwork in the digital age. Teams work together in real time, editing documents simultaneously, brainstorming on interactive whiteboards, and jumping into video calls, all inside one environment. AI-powered autocomplete cuts the busywork, and public share URLs make handing work to someone outside the team a single click.
Team work is scattered across a doc tool, a whiteboard tool, and a call tool: three tabs, three logins, three places for context to go missing. Switching between them breaks the thread of a conversation right when momentum matters most.
- Built the collaborative editor on Socket.IO so every keystroke syncs across connected clients in real time.
- Added shared whiteboards for the parts of thinking that don't fit in prose.
- Embedded video conferencing so a discussion never requires leaving the workspace.
- Wired in AI autocomplete to draft and extend text inline.
- Made every workspace shareable by public URL, no account needed to view.
- ✓ Real-time document editing for seamless collaboration
- ✓ Built-in video conferencing for crystal-clear discussions
- ✓ Shared interactive whiteboards for visual brainstorming
- ✓ AI-powered autocomplete to streamline workflows
- ✓ Anywhere, anytime access to tools and documents
- ✓ Effortless sharing via public URLs for simplified communication
Built solo in about three months while at Brototype, as a project to learn the hard parts of real-time systems rather than to win a market. My teammates and I used it day to day; it was never marketed, and the hosted version is no longer running. The source is still up.
